I'm not sure if it'll work for you (I'm running a HP Pavilion laptop), but it might be worth trying some trial-and-error sound driver downloads. What worked for me was, weirdly enough, downloading a Realtek audio driver off the website. I had the exact same issue as you, right down to the 'Intel High Definition Audio' switching to the 'Intel Display Audio' driver.
